The Art of Correspondence

The Art of Correspondence is a project that repurposes vintage postcards into new works of art and decor, while exploring and honoring their unique history.

Many of the postcards featured in this project are from the turn of the 20th century, a time known as "The Golden Age of Postcards", from 1890 to 1915. During this time, postcards had reached a zenith in popularity and design. The print colors were vivid, the designs were ornate, and sometimes, the messages were cheeky. Billions of postcards were sent during these years.

This project is both a celebration of these vintage discoveries — which otherwise may be collecting dust in a drawer somewhere — and an exploration into the correspondence practice of those who lived over 100 years ago. Each painting is placed beneath glass and encased in a custom-made wood frame. A cutout of its backing provides a peek into the past, and the preserved messages of its original sender.
